Duties

Help

Responsible for all programming operations. Develops and implements programs to accommodate the wide range of interests and ages for library patrons. Ensures that program activities emphasize those activities most appropriate to the interest and developmental needs of the population served. Administers library programs and prepares after-action reports and conducts evaluations of library program successes and failures. Conducts evaluations and surveys with patrons to ensure appropriate programming is being developed and administered. Coordinates the development and implementation of library programs in accordance with supervisory librarians recommendations and guidance. Develops marketing and publicity materials (print and electronic) for review and approval. Prepares and maintains weekly/monthly/annual programming statistics. Maintains the history binder and programming folder containing marketing/public relations material and reports for all library programs and events. Prepares information packages for various outreach needs. Assists the supervisory librarian in developing the library marketing plan. Represents the library at public relations meetings including but not limited to FSS events, base magazine, and newcomer events. Attends/represents library at other base meetings/events as assigned. Is the library liaison and meets on a regular basis with marketing and sponsorship staff to ensure marketing and publicity materials for library programs are adequate and correct. Develops new program concepts for library and submits to supervisory librarian for approval. Selects and evaluates office materials for program development and support. Performs quarterly inventory of craft and other programming supplies. Assists the supervisory librarian with developing program supply lists. Conducts and performs library tours and orientations, including FTEC and VIP tours. Submits materials to marketing and sponsorship to meet marketing/sponsorship requirements and deadlines. Maintains a social media presence. Assists in providing ready reference services to library customers and assists users with library equipment. Refers difficult reference questions to the senior technician or librarian. Performs routine library circulation tasks using integrated library system and reading program databases; refers to the standard operating procedures manual for assistance. Performs routine clerical tasks. Uses varied and advanced functions of word processing and graphic design platforms and software to prepare, format, modify, edit, and print a variety of emails, reports, memos, and marketing material. Receives and transmits electronic mail and attachments. Regularly assists at the circulation desk, maintaining a premium standard of service. Refers difficult questions/problems concerning work processes to the appropriate staff member or standard operation procedures manual.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

Experience in a library that provided specific knowledge of library rules, policies, and procedures for circulation and technical service and/or prior experience in program development for a variety of ages is desired. Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Must have experience or training that demonstrates the ability to perform computer data processing. Must have typing experience. Must possess skill in dealing with the public. Experience working with children is desired. Experience in public speaking is desired.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
