License Practical Nurse Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care:

• Collects and documents patient history, vital signs, and other relevant information and reports any abnormalities promptly.
• Assist physicians with examination, diagnostic procedures and treatment.
• Performs diagnostic procedures such as EKG, pulse oximetry reading, growth parameters, hearing/vision tests and other as required and within the scope of practice of a LPN.
• Administers medications within the scope of a LPN.
• Documents appropriately and accurately within the medical records.
• Assists in organizing patient flow to ensure quality patient care and effective time management.
• Reinforces the patient and/or family education regarding health promotion and maintenance as well as prevention of illness and injuries.
• Informs the registered professional nurse of any issues or problems that hinders the delivery of quality care.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and patient oriented environment that is sensitive to cultural diversity.
• Respects each patient's unique individual needs, beliefs, and diversity and incorporates these in the delivery of care.
• Helps and resource to the medical assistant as necessary.

2. Performs functions to assist in meeting operational needs:

• Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and organize work flow.
• Able to perform duties with minimal need for direct supervision.
• Participates in the care and storage of equipment in the area of assignment.
• Assists in the ordering and storage of supplies and equipment.
• Maintains the exam rooms, storage areas, medication room, and utility rooms in clean and organized manner.
• Disinfects and sterilizes instruments, equipment and reusable supplies.

3. Supports the mission, vision, and philosophy and goals of the Department of Nursing and Refuah Health Center.

4. Participates in staff development programs to maintain appropriate knowledge, skills and clinical competence.

5. Demonstrates a compassionate and caring attitude in dealing with patients and families.

6. Demonstrates knowledge of effective communication with members of the health care team and utilizes appropriate lines of communication.

7. Demonstrates knowledge of center and department policies, procedures and guidelines as well as regulatory agency standards relating to patient care.

8. Demonstrates knowledge and supports the Patient Bill of Rights.

9. Protects patient's privacy at all times.

10. Complies with applicable policies and procedures and supports the Compliance Program.

11. Contributes to organization operations by performing other duties as may be required.
