Position summaryProvide individual and group substance use counseling while serving as the program’s designated Alcohol and Drug Counselor Supervisor. Lead clinical practice, support treatment staff, and maintain a manageable client caseload consistent with supervisory responsibilities and ASAM Level 1.0 outpatient services.
Required qualifications- Current Minnesota Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor credential, with authority to perform the assigned duties. Full LADC licensure is an employer requirement for this posting.At least three years of experience providing individual and group counseling to people with substance use disorders, as required for the ADC Supervisor role under section 245G.11, subdivision 4.Knowledge of chapter 245G, sections 245A.65, 626.557 and 626.5572, and chapter 260E, including abuse prevention, mandated reporting, and client protections.At least 18 years old; meet applicable Chapter 245C background study requirements and maintain eligibility for direct contact duties.Complete required orientation and ongoing training, including at least 12 hours in co-occurring disorders. New staff without that training must complete it within six months of employment.
Counseling responsibilities- Complete comprehensive substance use assessments, evaluate ASAM dimensions and level of care needs, and arrange referral when outpatient services do not meet the client’s needs.Develop individualized treatment plans with measurable goals and documented client participation; review progress and update plans as needs change.Provide individual and group counseling, recovery skills education, relapse prevention, and family involvement when clinically appropriate and authorized by the client.Complete accurate assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reviews, and discharge documentation within applicable 245G timelines; document services to support applicable payer requirements.Use culturally responsive, trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches. Coordinate with qualified medical and mental health professionals for co-occurring conditions and medication services.Address safety concerns and crises within professional competence; follow emergency procedures and arrange a higher level of care when indicated.Maintain confidentiality, informed consent, ethical boundaries, and mandated reporting obligations under applicable Minnesota law, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2.
ADC Supervisor responsibilities- Provide and document treatment supervision, consultation, case review, and clinical feedback for assigned staff within the supervisor’s qualifications and program policies.Review assessment quality, treatment planning, clinical records, and discharge practices; monitor documentation timeliness and address deficiencies.Assist the Treatment Director with counselor orientation, competency development, performance evaluations, clinical coverage, and quality improvement.Monitor caseloads and group composition based on client needs. Group counseling must not exceed 16 clients.Supervise interns, former students, or temporary permit holders only when separately authorized and qualified; complete the required supervision records and document reviews.
Authority and role boundariesThe supervisor may guide assigned clinical work, require corrections to clinical documentation, and recommend admissions, transfers, or discharges within professional scope and program policy. Employment and budget decisions remain subject to the Treatment Director’s and owner’s authority. This role does not authorize independent practice outside LADC scope.
The program’s ADC Supervisor designation does not automatically confer BBHT-approved clinical supervisor status for licensure supervision. Separate requirements apply. Section 245G.11 also recognizes certain documented licensure exemptions; this posting specifically recruits a fully licensed LADC.
For statutory staffing purposes, a counselor who also serves as ADC Supervisor is counted as 0.5 full-time equivalent counselor under section 245G.10, subdivision 2.
Preferred qualificationsPrior clinical supervision; Minnesota 245G outpatient experience; proficiency with ASAM criteria, co-occurring disorders, motivational interviewing, electronic records, and culturally responsive care. These are employer preferences beyond the statutory experience requirement.
