Make a Life-Changing Impact-One Call, One Connection, One Community at a Time

Chesterfield County Fire & EMS is expanding our innovative Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) team and seeking a passionate Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who wants to make a measurable difference in the lives of individuals affected by opioid use and behavioral health challenges.

This is not a traditional office-based role. As an MIH clinician, you'll be part of a forward-thinking public safety team that blends emergency response, clinical expertise, and community-based care to reduce overdoses, connect residents with treatment, and support long-term recovery. Your work transforms lives-and strengthens our community.

What You'll Do

  • Join EMS crews on-scene to provide real-time crisis intervention, de-escalation, and compassionate support.
  • Conduct behavioral health and substance use assessments and create person-centered care plans.
  • Provide critical post-overdose outreach, helping individuals access MAT, detox, and recovery resources.
  • Build strong community relationships with hospitals, behavioral health providers, and the Community Services Board (CSB).
  • Offer harm-reduction guidance, naloxone training, and supportive counseling.
  • Document meaningful outcomes and contribute to an evidence-driven, grant-funded initiative.
  • Work as a valued part of a mission-driven team committed to saving lives and expanding access to care.

Why You'll Love This Job

  • Meaningful impact and community-focused work.
  • Innovative partnership between Fire & EMS and behavioral health.
  • Supportive team culture, ongoing training, and clinical development.
  • Autonomy, variety, and a dynamic mix of field response and follow-up care.
  • Opportunities to shape a cutting-edge public health-public safety model.

What We're Looking For

  • Master's degree in human services or related field; three years of experience related to assigned program or equivalent combination of training and experience. Active LCSW (Virginia) licensure.
  • Strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills.
  • Experience with substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health, or co-response work.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, unpredictable environments.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive care.
  • Must have a current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months OR a Department of Motor Vehicles DMV driving record point balance less than negative one. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by applicant and submitted at the time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
  • This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Working Environment

You'll split time between office-based documentation, community visits, and dynamic field response with EMS crews. This position involves exposure to emergency scenes, varied environments, and situations requiring PPE, safety protocols, and teamwork.

About the Position

This full-time role is funded through the Opioid Abatement Authority (OAA) and classified as Senior Clinician, Grade 215. (Hiring Range $72,466 to $97,827).

This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications and experience.
