Key Responsibilities

  • Installation & Repair: Install, repair, and troubleshoot HVAC systems—including rooftop units, air handlers, chillers, boilers, and air distribution systems—according to specifications and building codes.

  • Diagnostics: Diagnose mechanical and electrical failures in HVAC equipment, replace defective components (compressors, motors, fans, controls), and perform brazed repairs and refrigerant recovery/charging procedures.

  • Preventive Maintenance: Execute plant-wide preventive maintenance programs including scheduled inspections, filter changes, lubrication, refrigerant level checks, coil cleaning, and system performance monitoring.

  • Controls & Automation: Work with building automation systems (BAS) and digital controls, including installation and programming of thermostats, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and control panels.

  • Refrigeration & EPA Compliance: Service refrigeration systems (walk-in coolers, freezers, process cooling) while maintaining EPA compliance for refrigerant handling, recovery, and recycling.

  • Optimization: Assess equipment condition and provide recommendations for repairs, replacements, and energy efficiency improvements; order parts and manage inventory.

  • Safety Compliance: Follow OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, EPA Section 608 regulations, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Technical Documentation: Read and interpret electrical schematics, control sequences, and equipment specifications.

Qualifications Required:

  • Certification: EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (Freon/Refrigerant License) required.

  • Experience: 3+ years of commercial or industrial HVAC experience (or equivalent combination of trade school/vocational training and field experience).

  • Technical Skills: Strong electro-mechanical skills with proven diagnostic and troubleshooting ability.

  • General Skills: Proficiency with hand tools and electrical test equipment; knowledge of power distribution and control systems.

  • Requirements: Valid driver's license and High School Diploma (or equivalent).

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of industrial electrical troubleshooting experience.

  • State HVAC contractor license or journeyman certification.

  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) such as Trane, Carrier, Johnson Controls, or Honeywell.

  • Electrical Journeyman/Master License, Boiler Operator License, or NATE Certification.

  • OSHA 10/30 certification and forklift/aerial lift certification.
