Description
To provide direct occupational therapy services for students with special education needs and coordinate individual programs with students, staff, administrators and parents.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and assess students referred for special education eligibility determination.
- Develop and implement effective programs of intervention for students with special education needs.
- Develop IEP goals, benchmarks and assessment methods to monitor a students progress in the education area identified requiring intervention.
- Work collaboratively with all building liaisons, principals and teachers to determine eligibility, need for level, and /or continuation of occupational therapy service.
- Carefully monitor student progress toward achievement of goals, and effectively communicate to the TEAM termination of services where appropriate.
- Develop programs for efficiently delivering occupational therapy services and managing available resources.
- Keep thorough and confidential records for the individual students receiving occupational therapy.
- Consult with parents classroom teachers, and other staff as needed.
- Participate at team meetings where students have been recommended for or are currently receiving occupational therapy services. Provide clinical supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants(s)
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools designee.
Qualifications
- Hold appropriate license from the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Allied Health Professionals as an Occupational Therapist.
- A Masters Degree or higher in Occupational Therapy or related field.
- Experience in delivering occupational therapy services in the public school setting.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, school -level involvement and/or system - wide professional activities and the interview process.
