Summary of Position: The purpose of this position is to provide quality nursing services to the patients who are admitted to the Medical Respite Center. The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for planning care, implementing various treatments, and evaluating the delivery of care within the established regulatory guidelines and licensed nursing practice standards. Essential Duties: Duties include, but are not limited to:

Assist patients with managing their medications, obtaining new prescriptions and refills, and answering medication questions as necessary. Perform venipuncture, maintain site and administer intravenous (IV) medications as ordered. Draw blood, perform accuchecks, and urinalysis; prepare various specimens for transport while maintaining a clean, orderly clinical environment. Perform procedures and treatments as ordered including, but not limited to wound care, small volume nebulizer (SVN) treatments, oxygen, electrocardiogram (ECG), and assisting providers with procedures. Assist with maintenance of exam rooms by restocking, checking expiration dates, and cleaning exam tables between patients. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records (EHR). Act as a resource for Respite Assistants when questions arise about patient medical issues. Able to adapt to rapid, unpredictable workflow. Able to focus on work at hand with attention to detail. Ability to work with difficult patients and those with mental illness. Other Duties as presented by supervisor and/or Directors.

 Qualifications: Basic Knowledge and Skills:

Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing with a current Arizona license in good standing. Certified in IV therapy, phlebotomy skills. Minimum one (1) year experience in medical/surgical hospital, outpatient, home health or public health care. Competent in basic nursing knowledge of illnesses and treatments.   Understanding of substance and mental health issues. Computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information is required including use of electronic health records. Basic Life Support certification required (BLS).

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Position requires extended periods of sitting and standing. Position requires regular bending and reaching, including transfer of patients.  Effective Communication skills.
