Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) render direct patient care to an assigned group of patients in accordance with the philosophy, policies, and procedures of Northside Hospital. LPNs participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. LPNs work under the direction of the Registered Nurse in an assigned clinical area.

According to the National Association of Practical & Licensed Vocational Nurses (NALPN), Practical Nurses and Licensed Vocational Nurses are a specialized field who represent the entry into the nursing practice profession. LPNs practice in diverse clinical settings that include different healthcare professionals who work collaboratively as a team. This collaborative team works to improve a patients function and to protect the health and safety of the patients.

LPNs are part of the Licensed Practical Nurse - Nursing Excellence Track Program (L-NEXT) at Northside Hospital and have the opportunity for career advancement opportunities through expansion of knowledge, expertise, through both academic and continuing education and specialty certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure in the State of Georgia
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Georgia
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
  • One year of experience as an LPN (preferred)
  • Additional Life Support credential (e.g. ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) or other clinical specialty certifications (may be preferred in specific units)
  • Visual color acuity (depending on the role in specific units)
