Job Description Summary

The Main Operating Room is within a level-one academic trauma center. There are 21- OR suites which cover all surgical specialties to include Trauma Transplant Ortho Neuro ENT GU-GYN Robotics and Burns. The nursing teams consists of 75 Registered Nurses and 25 Certified Surgical Technologist. RNs are trained to both scrub and circulate surgical procedures. The Main OR is a busy and dynamic nurse-driven Magnet designated department that provides cutting-edge technology to the citizens of SC.

Job Summary

Purpose The Licensed Practical Nurse-Surgical Tech LPN-ST reports to the RN Team Coordinator. Under direction of a Registered Nurse, the LPN-ST provides individualized goal-directed and family-centered patient care and functions as a member of the operating room team to prepare sterile supplies, instrumentation, and equipment used in surgical procedures, and performs appropriate room duties involved with the direct patient care with adherence to established procedural guidelines. The LPN-ST demonstrates proficiency according to the Laws governing nursing in South Carolina. This position delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results and outcomes. This position will require the use of the LPNs skills in multiple physical locations under MUSC Health.

Minimum Training and Education

Graduation from a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing program and licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state. One year of LPN experience preferred. Current Basic Life Support BLS required either a certification from an American Heart Association AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or AHA recognized equivalent or an American Red Cross CPRAED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Required Licensure Certifications Registrations

Licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support BLS required either a certification from an American Heart Association AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or AHA recognized equivalent or an American Red Cross CPRAED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Infrequent Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. Frequent Examples include To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.

Ability to maintain 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both eyes. Continuous Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
