The responsibilities of the Staff Nurse include:
Assists in the management, plans and provision of patient care and makes assignments to
nursing personnel consistent with their education, training and experience.
Supervises and evaluates all nursing assistants under his/her supervision.
Visits each patient daily to evaluate patient needs and the effectiveness of the nursing
care provided.
Transcribes orders promptly and accurately.
Assists in maintaining a current patient care plan on all patients under charge
Notifies supervisor and contacts physician in relation to a significant change in a
condition.
Interprets and supports nursing care policies and procedures to nursing personnel under
her supervision.
Coordinates nursing activities with other patient care services.
Maintains an accurate and safe control on all drugs for which she is responsible.

Has read, understands and has quick access to a copy of the nursing department manual.
Administers and properly records all medications and treatments as ordered by the
attending physician.
Gets report from preceding shift and notifies supervisor if there is any problem either
with patients or staffing.
Makes rounds at the beginning of the shift, and assigns nursing assistants their work fir
the shift.
Does all treatments that are ordered for each patient.
Assists nursing assistants when needed with difficult patients or a heavy workload.
Sees that all patients get to their scheduled therapies and other activities.
Notifies supervisor of any changes in condition or any problem that should
arise.Sees that all assignments are completed and that patients and nursing unit are in
satisfactory condition for the next shift.
Maintains valid RN or LPN license in the State of Indiana.
