Health Services - Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Substitute

NOTE: These positions are as needed and require assignments to various schools throughout the school year as the need arises.
Duties:
• Provides nursing care for students requiring special health procedures. • Rides the bus with students in order to provide nursing services if needed. • Follows up on identified health problems with parents and other health professionals. • Refers parents, students, teachers, health agencies, and individuals for counseling to assigned RN. • Records health data in the cumulative health record and keeps them current. • Contacts principal and Health Services Office regarding crisis situations in the school, including child abuse, threatened suicide, and accidents. • Administers medication to students according to the approved policy. • Administers first aid to students and staff according to the approved policy. • Communicates effectively with Supervisor of Health Services and Registered Nurse assigned to the school.
Qualifications:
• Graduate of a practical nursing program approved by State Board of Nursing. • Must possess a current LPN license to practice nursing in the State of Alabama. • Must have at least three years of experience in a hospital or community health setting. • Must be computer literate with good communication skills. • Must offer client-centered care. • Must complete an orientation and training class held by the Department of Health Services. • Must have a substitute certificate from the Department of Human Resources.

Additional Job Information: Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo or have undergone an ABIFBI criminal history background check fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
