Licensed Practical Nurse - School Nurse

Job Details

• Licensed Practical Nurse with valid licensure
• Evidence of completion of a physical assessment skills course
• Eligible for Arizona School Nurse Certification
• Current CPR Certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Three years of experience preferred
• Education or experience in pediatric nursing or urgent care nursing
• Ability to work effectively with many people
• Knowledge of working with handicapped children and physical assessment skills, including sports injuries

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Evaluate health care needs of students
• Maintain records as required by the school physician and in compliance with state laws
• Administer medications, maintain records of dosages and any adverse effects, and educate students on personal hygiene and overall health care
• Keep current medical records on each student
• Conduct routine surveys and annual screenings
• Keep parents informed of student health status
• Manage student emergencies related to accidents and health care
• Communicate student health care needs to instructional staff and participate in sign language classes for communication with deaf students

Special Knowledge and Skills

• Good knowledge of assessment and treatment of children ages four (4) to twenty-two (22)
• Strong planning, organization, and communication skills; injury assessment skills are beneficial

Special Conditions/Requirements

• Must utilize appropriate personal protective equipment as required
