Job Summary
Responsible for inspecting, testing, repairing, and maintaining fire sprinkler systems to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and optimal safety for occupants. Work closely with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to address issues and maintain the integrity of fire protection systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections and testing of wet, dry, and pre-action fire sprinkler systems to identify and address issues or deficiencies in accordance with NFPA 25 requirements.
- Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection findings, test results, deficiencies, and compliance issues.
- Test and evaluate sprinkler heads, valves, piping, pumps, and control systems.
- Inspect piping, fittings, and connections for corrosion, leaks, or damage and recommend necessary repairs or replacements.
- Perform maintenance on fire sprinkler systems, including replacing damaged components, cleaning pipes and sprinkler heads, lubricating moving parts, and adjusting system settings.
- Inspect fire pump assemblies, including testing flow rates, pressure levels, and mechanical integrity.
- Respond to service calls and emergency requests, diagnosing problems and implementing solutions.
- Accurately document service activities, including inspection reports, work orders, parts usage, and customer notes.
- Work with sales personnel to provide inspection reports, material requirements, and job-related notes for repair estimates.
- Interact professionally with clients to schedule work, discuss inspection findings, address concerns, and recommend system upgrades or improvements.
- Coordinate with service coordinators regarding work orders, materials, scheduling, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment while following all safety procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in fire protection or a related field preferred.
- Strong understanding of fire protection codes, standards, and regulations, including NFPA 13 and NFPA 25.
- Massachusetts Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter certification required.
- NICET certification strongly preferred.
- Prior experience installing, maintaining, and repairing fire sprinkler systems in commercial and industrial settings.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and outdoor environments.
- Ability to work in environments involving noise, dust, heat, low-light conditions, heights, and other challenging conditions.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces while using appropriate fall protection and safety equipment.
- Ability to use hand and power tools for cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening, and other tasks involving torque, vibration, and noise.
