Job Description
Position SummaryThe Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine (LIU-CVM) invites applications for 2 full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician positions with both primarily located at North Shore Animal League (NSAL) with some work occurring at LIU-CVM Post campus. Those stationed at NSAL will assist in our new shelter medicine program and or an emergency critical care and surgical service program. The successful candidates may assist with small animal laboratories on the LIU-CVM campus. All positions will report to the Department Head of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. When available, the successful candidates will work closely with LIU-CVM faculty and assist in other programs such as the small animal wellness clinic, Trap, Neuter and Release, and other outreach programs overseen by clinical faculty.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssist veterinarians and LIU‑CVM faculty with clinical care activities in shelter medicine and/or emergency, critical care, and surgical service programsProvide licensed veterinary technician support for small animal patients, including routine technical tasks and patient handlingSupport clinical teaching activities by working with faculty and veterinary students during clinical rotations and small animal laboratoriesAssist with the operation of wellness clinics, Trap‑Neuter‑Return (TNR), and other outreach programs overseen by clinical faculty, as availableMaintain organized and functional clinical and laboratory spaces and assist with basic recordkeeping as directed
Minimum Qualifications Must have CVT/LVT/RVT credentials with current licenseMust have extensive veterinary experience and successful completion of a Veterinary Technician programWork experience and familiarity with the veterinary medical profession Good people skills/team player On-the-fly problem solver Experience with teaching students will strengthen the position application, but is not essential Knowledge of: Small animal techniques and handling skills
