Licensed Veterinary Technician - Emergency

Full-time San Antonio, TX Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists TPHS is looking for a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

About You

As an LVT, you will play an important role in pets lives by providing comprehensive care throughout their journey. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests to surgery assistance to support services including admitting and discharging patients.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care
  • Advocate for pets and educate clients
  • With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow
  • Triage emergency patients
  • Monitor hospitalized patients
  • Perform patient laboratory tests and nursing care
  • Assist with surgeries and procedures
  • Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments
  • Assist in maintaining relevant comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems
  • Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts
  • Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs
  • Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members
  • Other tasks as assigned

Experience & Skills Requirements

  • 2 years of experience as an LVT required
  • Has exceptional technical skills, including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and radiographic positioning, drug calculations, administering medications, and fluids
  • Ability to handle lift and restrain animals, dogs, cats, pocket pets, etc., and stand for long periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology
  • Has organizational and computer skills
  • Flexibility to work weekends, overnights, and holidays

Equipped with advanced technology such as CT, MRI, linear accelerator, ultrasound, and an in-house blood bank, the facility also features a full pharmacy. With over 25 years of experience in emergency medicine and critical care, the team fosters a friendly, collaborative work environment that reflects the hospitals core values.

We offer 24-hour emergency and urgent care for dogs, cats, exotics, and small pocket pets in the San Antonio area. We are the 2nd ER hospital in the country to be Fear-Free certified.
