ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Know and perform general clinic procedures (opening, closing, cleaning chores)
• Proper animal handling for a variety of different procedures, and various positions
• Perform nail trims, anal gland expressions, and administer medication to animals correctly
• Phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, medication dosage calculations
• Correct preparation of surgical suite for procedures
• Perform radiographs with proper placement
• Effectively use all laboratory equipment and use of IV fluid pumps
• Anesthesia induction, intubation, and monitoring
• Appropriately and correctly fill prescription medications
• Client education and obtain proper patient history
• Taking complete medical history from clients and relaying information to the doctors
• Identify and appropriately recommend vaccinations and all preventatives with general working knowledge of each product
• Appropriately clean and sanitize any and all working surfaces
• Preform dental prophylaxis
• Any other duties as needed
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an accredited school, passing all board examinations (VTNE), obtaining a license in the appropriate state
REQUIRED SKILLS
Animal handling and restraint
Phlebotomy and pharmacological education
PREFERRED SKILLS
Working anatomical education
Anesthesia administering and monitoring.
