Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Newcastle Veterinary Associates PLLC dba Eastside Veterinary Associates, Newcastle/Renton, WA: Responsible for assisting veterinarians in evaluating and treating companion animals.
Duties and responsibilities include:
· Perform diagnostic imaging, including x-rays and ultrasounds;
· Conduct laboratory and diagnostic procedures such as venipuncture, cytology, urinalysis, hematology, microbiology, ECGs, and blood pressure monitoring;
· Provide anesthesia services, including pre-medication, induction, intubation, maintenance, monitoring, and recovery care;
· Assist in surgical procedures and perform surgical site preparation, instrument setup, and wound closure as permitted;
· Administer medications, vaccines, and biologics through multiple routes;
· Deliver specialized patient care, including IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and ongoing patient monitoring;
· Perform dental procedures such as prophylaxis, nerve blocks, simple extractions, and gingival suturing;
· Apply splints and casts and perform other therapeutic or medical interventions as needed; and,
· Communicate with clients, maintain medical records, and serve as a resource for practice staff.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Associate’s degree or higher (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Veterinary Technology/Medicine or closely related field.
Experience: Two years of post-Associate’s degree experience in veterinary medicine.
SKILLS/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must hold a valid Washington Veterinary Technician license.
Experience must include two years with each of the following:
1. Small-animal dental procedures, including charting, full-mouth radiography, scaling, polishing, and local anesthesia (dental nerve blocks), simple extractions, and suturing of gingiva;
2. Wound treatments, including cleaning, bandaging, and suturing or closure of prepared skin wounds and gingival incisions under veterinary supervision;
3. Venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory testing, fine-needle aspirates and centesis;
4. Anesthetic protocols and procedures, including induction, maintenance, monitoring, recovery, and perioperative patient care;
5. Sterile surgical procedures, including preparing and maintaining aseptic surgical suites;
6. Diagnostic and medical procedures, including electrocardiograms, radiography, sonography, blood pressure, cytology analysis, tonometry, Schirmer Tear Test, fluorescein stain, urinalysis, and hematological tests; and,
7. Inventory management, including procurement, organization, and maintenance of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.
Experience can be gained concurrently.
Basic pay is twenty-nine dollars and fifty cents to thirty dollars per hour for full-time employment.
