Summary/Objective

The Licensed Vocational Nurse provides direct nursing care to patients of all age groups, implementing measures to promote a safe environment for psychiatric patients and others, and supporting the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the Hospital.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provides patient care to assigned patients as directed by the treatment team including attending Recovery Team Meetings.
  • Delegate tasks to unlicensed personnel that take into consideration patient safety, staff safety, and experience and knowledge of staff.
  • Knows the rationale for and the effects of medications, including psychoactive medications, and shall correctly administer said medications.
  • Clarify any order or treatment regimen that the nurse has reason to believe is inaccurate, non-efficacious or contraindicated by consulting with the appropriate licensed practitioner and notifying the ordering practitioner when the nurse makes the decision not to administer the medication or treatment.
  • Maintains required documentation of patient care and unit activities in accordance with standards and reports to charge nurse any change in patient''s condition or the environment.
  • Institute appropriate nursing interventions that might be required to stabilize a patient''s condition and/or prevent complications.

Required Education and Experience

Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Required License/Certifications

Current LVN License in the state of Texas.

BLS Certification within 30 days of hire

SAMA certification within 90 days of hire

Abuse and Neglect training, and Unit specific competencies obtained within 30 days of hire or transfer date.
