Job Summary

The County of San Diego is currently accepting applications for the position of Licensed Vocational Nurse. Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN's) provide skilled nursing care to patients and clients at public health clinics, behavioral health clinics (locked, inpatient, and day treatment) or long-term skilled nursing facilities. Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis. Individuals possessing bilingual language skills are highly desirable. This position is eligible for appointment at step 5, $66,497.60 annually. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in accordance with Compensation Ordinance 1.3.5. Future Salary Increase: June 2026 – 5.3% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 1.8% Market Adjustment) June 2027 – 4.8% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 1.8% Market Adjustment)

Hourly Rates and Premiums The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies in Health and Human Services Agency departments including the following: Edgemoor Distinct Part Skilled Nursing Facility Edgemoor Distinct Part Skilled Nursing Facility (DP SNF) is located in Santee, CA. It provides 24-hour long term skilled nursing care for individuals having complex medical needs who require specialized interventions from highly trained staff. Public Health Clinics The mission of Public Health Services is to promote health and improve quality of life by preventing disease, injury, and disability and by protecting against and responding to health threats and disasters. HHSA Public Health Services has a major focus on infectious disease prevention with Tuberculosis Control and HIV, STD, and Hepatitis clinic services located in the main Public Health Services complex and six satellite clinics that offer Hansen's disease services and Immunizations to the public. Licensed Vocational Nurses have an essential role in supporting these clinics by providing trauma-informed care, health education, and referrals to a diverse population. San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital The San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital (SDCPH) is a publicly funded, free-standing psychiatric hospital located at 3853 Rosecrans Street, San Diego, CA 92110. It is a locked facility and a component of the San Diego County Behavioral Health Services' continuum of care. The mission of the Hospital is to provide psychiatric evaluation and crisis intervention-oriented acute treatment for adult residents of San Diego County. The goal of SDCPH is to stabilize patients' behavioral health crisis and move ahead to a less restrictive level of care. Read more information about SDCPH. Licensed Vocational Nurses at the Psychiatric Hospital are assigned to one of two shifts: Morning (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) or Night (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) ***This hard to recruit position qualifies for the Employee Referral Reward Program. Hiring Process and Timeline The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.

Minimum Qualifications Possession of a current license to practice vocational nursing in the State of California at time of appointment.

Notes

  • A current certification in accordance with the American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program is required at the time of appointment.
  • A valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI) is required at time of employment.
  • Certification or completion of courses in Blood Withdrawal and/or IV Therapy is highly desirable.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to communicable diseases and persons that may be potentially violent or disturbed.

Condition of Employment

As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Evaluation The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental application. Applicants must ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses provided on the supplemental application form will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system. If an applicant is successful in the initial screening process, their application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information provided is accurate and qualifying.
