Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Licensing Engineer SME – Nuclear to support nuclear regulatory, licensing, and compliance activities in Charlotte, NC.

This is a highly experienced individual contributor position for a professional recognized as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in nuclear regulatory and licensing matters. The selected candidate will work with a high degree of independence, addressing complex licensing and regulatory issues while providing guidance and support to nuclear sites.

The ideal candidate will bring 15+ years of relevant discipline experience, strong knowledge of the nuclear regulatory environment, and the ability to develop high-quality licensing and compliance products with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in nuclear licensing, regulatory affairs, and/or compliance.
• Solve complex engineering and regulatory problems with limited supervision.
• Prepare accurate, high-quality licensing and regulatory products within required timelines.
• Provide nuclear site support related to:
  • Technical Specification compliance
  • Licensing requirements
  • Operability matters
  • Reportability determinations
  • NRC inspections
• Support licensing and compliance processes, programs, and external interface activities.
• Apply nuclear regulatory requirements and established procedures to increasingly complex and varied assignments.
• Provide technical and regulatory guidance to site personnel and other stakeholders.
• Support the resolution of complex nuclear licensing and compliance matters.
• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior Regulatory Affairs team members.
• Work independently while coordinating effectively with engineering, operations, regulatory, and site organizations.

Required Qualifications

• 15+ years of relevant discipline experience within nuclear engineering, licensing, regulatory affairs, compliance, or a closely related area.
• Demonstrated Subject Matter Expert-level knowledge of nuclear regulatory and licensing matters.
• Strong understanding of Technical Specifications and nuclear regulatory compliance.
• Experience supporting licensing, operability, reportability, and/or NRC inspection activities.
• Ability to independently analyze and resolve complex regulatory or engineering issues.
• Strong technical writing skills with the ability to prepare high-quality regulatory and licensing documentation.
• Ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to provide guidance and mentorship to less-experienced team members.

Preferred Experience

• Power uprate licensing experience, particularly experience developing or supporting power uprate licensing documentation.
• Previous experience supporting nuclear site Regulatory Affairs or Licensing organizations.
• Experience interfacing with external organizations on matters affecting nuclear licensing and compliance.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring junior licensing or Regulatory Affairs professionals.

This is not an entry- or mid-level nuclear engineering position. The team is looking for someone who has spent a significant portion of their career working directly with nuclear licensing and regulatory matters and can step into complex assignments with minimal oversight.

A particularly strong candidate will bring deep experience with NRC-facing licensing activities, Technical Specifications, regulatory compliance, operability/reportability issues, and power uprate licensing documentation.
