Lifeguarding Positions

Early Bird (ages 18 and up) and Evening Lifeguards (ages 16 and up)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum age of 16 years

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to acquire before beginning work). Certification reimbursement is an option after three months of employment with documentation of payment and course completion.

• Strong swimming skills, including the ability to:

• Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination.

• Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs.

• Complete a timed event (swim 20 yards, perform a surface dive to retrieve a 10-pound object from the bottom of the pool (7-10 feet deep), swim 20 yards on your back with the object, and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute, 40 seconds).

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.

• Strong observation and decision-making skills.

• Reliable and punctual.

• Ability to work flexible hours

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ages 18 and above
• Preferred availability from 5:45 AM - 8:45 AM, Monday-Thursday
• 3 years Lifeguarding experience
• Experience with or a desire to assist with additional community aquatic programs

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Actively supervise swimmers to prevent accidents and ensure safety.
• Enforce all pool rules and regulations clearly and consistently.
• Recognize and respond immediately to aquatic emergencies, including performing rescues and providing first aid and CPR/AED as needed.
• Complete incident/accident reports accurately and thoroughly.
• Assist patrons with sign-in and payment as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and order of the pool area, deck, and equipment.
• Conduct routine safety checks of the facility and equipment.
• Educate patrons on safe swimming practices and facility guidelines.
• Attend all mandatory in-service training and staff meetings.
• Provide excellent customer service to all patrons.
• Mentor new guards during their first 2-3 shifts

HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT: Varied, 6 to 20 hours per week depending on employee availability
