Lifeguard

Overview To work as a UNM Lifeguard you must maintain patron surveillance of the facility while enforcing rules and regulations effectively as directed by the University and State of New Mexico Environment Department. Must be able to: spot dangers and potential hazards to prevent serious injury or accident; control and report unruly behavior; maintain accurate detailed documentation of headcount, first aid practices and others; perform cleaning duties. Must act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. Must provide emergency care and treatment as a team as set by American Red Cross standards and procedures.Exceeding the Red Cross standards, UNM lifeguards must be able to swim 500 yards in 10 minutes or less, swim with a 10-pound brick for 25 yards, and retrieve a 10-pound brick from 14 feet depth and tread with it on the surface for one minute. As a minimum qualification for this position: All UNM lifeguards must be certified in first aid, AED, oxygen, and lifeguarding for the professional rescuer through Red Cross.This is an ongoing recruitment and this posting will be removed when applications are no longer being accepted.Responsibilities Maintain surveillance of the facility and enforce safety rules and regulations.Spot dangers and potential hazards to prevent injury or accidents; report incidents and maintain necessary documentation.Direct cleaning duties and other assigned tasks to maintain a safe environment.Act immediately to secure safety of patrons in emergencies and provide emergency care and treatment as part of a team per Red Cross standards.Minimum Qualifications Less than high school; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
