POSITION TITLE:Lifeguard
POSITION LOCATION: Ann Arbor Open School (In-Person)
HOURLY: Based on Experience; Seasonal Position
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports directly to the Building Principal/Administrator.
Summary
Responsible for the safety and well-being of adaptive physical education students under assigned supervision in the pool area. Responsible for enforcing established pool rules and regulations.

Qualifications

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations- Possession of current, valid licensing or certification as it applies to this position
- Certification in the appropriate level and subject is required for teachers
- Dual or multiple certifications for teachers is preferred
Copies of an active Michigan Teaching Certificate and college transcripts are required with the application packet. Original certificate and certified transcripts are required prior to being hired.
Education & Experience- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Current First Aid / CPR and Lifeguard Certification required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience in lifeguarding and/or aquatic activities desired
Job Responsibilities- Must have availability Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am-11:30am
- Maintains constant surveillance in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of students in the event of emergency
- Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medial services (EMS)
- Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times
- Maintains high standard of customer service
- Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain clean and safe facility
- Support physical education teacher as needed during instruction
- Perform miscellaneous job related duties as assigned
This position requires regular and reliable attendance on site to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Language Skills- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of staff, students, and parents
- Ability to effectively communicate rules and regulations
Mathematical Skills- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s
Reasoning Ability- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form
Other Skills & Abilities- Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds
- Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community
- Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
