GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Seasonal Aquatics Instructor is responsible for providing private and group swim instruction to clients, maintaining a safe and effective learning environment, while focusing on the fulfillment of clients swimming goals, achieving personal revenue goals, and providing the best customer service and hospitality to members and guests. As needed, the Seasonal Aquatics Instructor may also be asked to perform Lifeguard duties as described below.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • SWIM INSTRUCTOR Provides instruction, provides specific and corrective feedback to each client at each session. Design and deliver effective and rewarding sessions and workouts. Provide swim evaluations to help parents decide which program is best for their child and client retention. Maintain accurate, current records on all clients progress, follow progression guidelines. Enforce all pool rules and aquatics center and club policies. Maintain a consistent work schedule, arrive punctually for sessions. Provide excellent communication with the parents of swimmers, as well as all members and staff. Track attendance of clients sessions. Accurately enter and maintain consistent, timely records in the required systems for hours worked and sessions. Actively participate in events, programs, meetings, and training, including in-service training. Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the aquatics center. Represent the club in a professional manner through image, dress, communication, and immediate follow-through and response.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS - LIFEGUARD (IF APPLICABLE)

  • Supervise the activities of swimmers by consistently enforcing rules and regulations.
  • Notify swimmers of improper activities or hazards.
  • Rescue persons in distress or in danger of drowning when indicated and provide rescue breathing, CPR, and First Aid.
  • Notify the Aquatics Director of any accidents, rescues, or problems.
  • Report to the Aquatic Director any equipment that is in need of repair.
  • Answer inquiries pertaining to the use of the pool and Aquatics services offered.
  • Direct all helpful suggestions from participants and others to the Aquatic Director or Club Management.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Available to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed, as hours are not guaranteed and can change at any time.
  • Be on time for your shift and for rotations throughout the day. Be ready to work, which includes being dressed in uniform, sunscreen applied, and wearing your Rescue Tubes and First Aid pack each day.
  • Return to the Lifeguard office at the end of the day. Check your pack for its proper contents daily at the start of the shift.
  • Help keep the pool deck clean, safe, and organized.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follow all safety procedures and precautions.
  • Give high-quality customer service, including giving full attention to the pool swimmers while in the guard chair. Do not have a conversation if a member needs assistance; please refer him/her to the Head Lifeguard or to the Service Desk.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, & EDUCATION

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard
  • CPR, AED & First Aid certifications for adults, infant, and toddlers
  • Understand the current best practices in learn-to-swim skills, competitive swim techniques, and childhood development
  • Experience teaching Swim Lessons for all ages
  • Knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques, and first aid, recognize hazardous situations, and adopt effective courses of action
  • Require attentiveness to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors
  • Require proficient swimming ability and the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques
  • Ability to properly extract victims from the pool to the deck
  • Effective communication skills and engage positively with membership
  • Sales and Marketing - Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling services
  • Problem Anticipation, Deductive Reasoning - Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and then apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
  • Oral Comprehension and Expression - Ability to understand and communicate so others can understand ideas and information
  • Computer - Ability to develop and maintain computer records in Word, Excel, and other software required by TBCC

SWIM INSTRUCTOR TIER

The following is a guideline for the various tier levels.

  • Master Swim Instructor Minimum of 60 lessons per month Average of 6 months
  • Elite Swim Instructor Minimum of 80 lessons per month Average of 6 months
  • Ultimate Swim Instructor Minimum of 100 lessons per month Average of 6 months
