What You'll Do (A Day in the Life)
Every shift as a Lifeguard is active and fast-paced. You'll rotate stations while keeping a sharp eye on the pool and surrounding areas, enforce safety rules, and step in quickly to assist patrons or respond to emergencies. You'll check water conditions, help with light cleaning and setup, and spend plenty of time interacting with guests to keep the environment positive and welcoming. Shifts can include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, so flexibility is key.

What We're Looking For
We're looking for dependable, safety-focused individuals who are comfortable working with people of all ages and can stay calm under pressure. Strong communication skills and a commitment to safety are essential. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain required lifeguard, CPR, AED, and first aid certifications.
Incumbents are responsible for providing safety of guests at an aquatic facility by anticipating, recognizing, responding to and managing potentially dangerous situations including emergency situations, and in addition to instructing swim and water safety programs.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Receives direction from higher-level aquatics supervisory and management staff.
Typical Class Essential Duties
Patrols pool area to observe activities of individuals in an aquatic facility to ensure participant safety and compliance with facility rules.
Provides general customer service and communicates with the public regarding fees, policies, rules and general information about the facility or event.
Instructs swim and water safety programs in accordance with American Red Cross standards at an aquatic facility.
Maintains appropriate records associated with an aquatic facility.
Performs tasks involved in the general operation of an aquatic facility, including physical tasks which involve moving various pieces of equipment and basic mechanical tasks.
Enforces facility and public health rules and regulations. Cleans aquatic facilities; performs and records chemical tests; turns fountains and related water features off and on.
Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

LICENSING and CERTIFICATIONS
If an applicant does not possess a current Lifeguard certification, completion of the City's internal certification program for First Aid, CPR, and American Red Cross Lifeguard will be required. Applicants must pass a pre-course swim test prior to being accepted into the certification program.

Employment with the City of Casper is contingent upon a successful background screen and pre-employment drug test. Applicants who have failed a pre-employment screen or have been terminated from the City of Casper are ineligible for employment consideration for 12 months. The City of Casper utilizes direct deposit for payroll purposes.
Driving records are required for all new employees regardless of the positions driving requirements. If the employee has not held a Wyoming drivers license for the last three years, the employee must provide at their own initiation and expense a driving record from their previous state(s) of residence.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
City of Casper employees in data creation and modification, security sensitive or safety and protective positions are subject to pre-employment drug testing. Some employees may be subject to random drug testing if their responsibilities include:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Incumbent may be subject to perform duties either indoors or outdoors, which may include extreme climate/weather conditions (warm humid indoors/unpredictable weather outdoors) and ongoing exposure to sun and pool chemicals such as chlorine.
The nature of duties involves constant mental and visual attention. Incumbents in this position will be in situations where they may experience critical/traumatic events and need to have the ability to quickly move between workspaces.
MINOR LABOR RESTRICTIONS
15 Years of Age
o Extended to 9:00pm from June 1st through Labor Day
o Includes all power-driven tools such as trimmers, weed eaters, leave blowers, etc.
o Includes all cars, trucks, ATVs, golf carts, riding mowers, etc.
o Cannot drive any vehicle (including personal) for work purposes - i.e., errands or changing work locations
16 Years of Age
o Extended to 12:00am on non-school nights
o Cannot drive any vehicle (including personal) for work purposes - i.e., errands or changing work locations
o May operate ATVs, golf carts, riding mowers, etc. on City grounds ONLY (may not go on public roadways)
o Must meet WARM driving criteria in order to operate ATVs, golf carts, riding mowers, etc. on City grounds
17 Years of Age
o Extended to 12:00am on non-school nights
o Driving is limited to daylight hours
o Cannot have more than three (3) passengers
o Cannot drive more than 33% of the scheduled workday or 20% of scheduled workweek
o Cannot operate a vehicle over 6,000 pounds
o Cannot tow vehicles OR trailers
o Must have a valid Wyoming driver's license
o Cannot have ANY prior moving violations
