About the role

Lifeguard (Part‑Time)

HealthFitness is hiring Lifeguards to join the aquatics team at Harvard Recreation in Cambridge, MA. Thispart‑time role (10–15 hours per week) is a great fit for students or anyone looking for flexible hours in an active, team‑oriented environment. You’ll help maintain a safe, welcoming pool area while supporting a vibrant campus community.

Responsible for monitoring and ensuring a safe and friendly environment for all of the aquatic facility members and guests.

Key Accountabilities

• Monitor and ensure safety and well-being of patrons using the aquatic facilities.

• Enforce and explain rules as necessary.

• Respond appropriately to any emergency.

• Perform chemical testing and documents results for three bodies of water and a hot tub four times a day.

• Attend all required staff meetings and training.

• Ensure that needs of the aquatic center are being met by folding towels; cleaning; filling water machines; and inspecting the Aquatics Facility to ensure safe environment for members.

• Maintain a professional attitude.

• Other duties as needed/assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Must be at least 15 years old.

• American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification.

• Meet HealthFitness Fitness and Skill standards.

• Be dependable, alert and able to interact with people of all ages in a positive manner with strong customer service skills.

• Computer proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook; and working knowledge of the member management system, databases, and tools.

 
All lifeguards are required to perform a basic lifeguard skill test consisting of:

• 500 yard swim.

• Active, Passive, Submerged rescues.

• Spinal injury management in shallow and deep water.

• Other various techniques that were learned during the Lifeguard Training Program.

Compensation: $18 - $20/hour. Pay is dependent on experience and qualifications. The final wage offer will be determined based on factors such as location, qualifications, experience, skill set, and other relevant factors.  We understand that compensation is an important factor when considering a new opportunity, and we strive to provide a competitive wage within the market.
