What You'll Be Doing:

  • Monitor pool areas and activities to maintain a safe environment for swimmers of all ages.
  • Enforce facility rules and policies while providing friendly and respectful experience for participants.
  • Assist swimmers who need support, including performing emergency rescues when necessary.
  • Respond to emergencies by providing first aid, CPR, and other appropriate assistance.
  • Work collaboratively with other lifeguards to maintain coverage and safety throughout the facility.
  • Complete routine facility maintenance tasks, including cleaning pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, and shared spaces.
  • Answer questions, provide information, and serve as a welcoming point of contact for community members.
  • Communicate safety concerns, operational issues, and improvement ideas with supervisors.
  • Participate in required training, meetings, and professional development activities.

Lifeguard

Acceptable Experience and Training

Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years old.
  • StarGuard Elite Lifeguarding certification/license or other current Lifeguarding certification (if currently Lifeguard certified elsewhere, cross-over training will be completed upon hire).
  • Ability to attend work on a regular, predictable basis as scheduled

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current Lifeguarding certification required at the time of application.
  • Ability to maintain required certifications throughout employment.

Additional Information

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Work is performed primarily in a pool facility environment.
  • Position requires regular interaction with program participants, City employees, and members of the public.
  • Must be available to work scheduled shifts based on operational needs.

Bilingual Incentive Pay Available

Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, ASL, or any other language spoken by over 10% of the City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, will receive a monthly 3% premium pay. The incentive is only paid on hours in paid status. Proficiency will be determined by a City-administered test.
