DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to ensure the safety of patrons at the city's public swimming facility. Employees in this classification perform at entry staff level are responsible for monitoring various swimming activities as well as assisting with special functions. Employee assists in maintaining pool and surrounding facility area. Objective is to ensure safety and general welfare of the general public engaging in all swimming activities through guarding and instructing patrons.

MINIMUM TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, OR CERTIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required, unless currently enrolled in High School; supplemented by a demonstrated ability to perform the physical requirements of the position; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Applicants must pass a swim test that includes: able to swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Able to tread water for 2 minutes using only legs, candidates should place their hands under the armpits. Able to complete a timed event within 1 minute, and 40 seconds.
Must possess and maintain current Lifeguard Certification
Must possess and maintain current CPR and First Aid Certifications
Must possess and maintain AED for the Professional
Water Safety Instructor's (WSI) Certification preferred
