ROLE AND PURPOSE:

This position provides a professional and safe environment for all pool patrons and swimmers in the pool and deck area. This position will assist the Aquatic Coordinator and Senior Lifeguard in establishing and maintaining a safe environment throughout the District Natatorium.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:
• Current Lifeguard certification (American Red Cross, or comparable)
• Minimum age requirement of 16 years

Experience:
• Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of lifeguard skills

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Strong swimmer
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Mentally and physically fit

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

I. INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT:
• Uphold and adhere to safety rules
• Observe for accidents occurring in the water, on the deck, or diving board equipment.
• Make water rescues for injured or distressed patrons/swimmers, administer resuscitation and
first aid, and call 911 for serious accident cases.
• Report potential hazards and unsafe conditions to Senior Lifeguard or Aquatic Coordinator
• Maintain an acceptable appearance at all times, including both uniform and personal hygiene.
• Display professionalism, courtesy, and helpfulness to all pool patrons and fellow employees in
performance of duties.
• Be adaptable and flexible in acceptance of changes in policies and procedures.
• Participate in mandatory continuing education/in-service as required by State law.
• Maintain a professional level of confidentiality regarding all district matters.
• Support the goals and objectives of the district and follow district policies

II. OTHER DUTIES:
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Aquatic Coordinator and Head Coach

III. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• None

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS:

MENTAL DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic equipment, standard office equipment including computer
and peripherals, and other instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED)
Posture: Prolonged standing; kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping
Motion: Frequent walking and physical movements associated with sport(s) assigned
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather);
exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress,
with frequent interruptions

Part-Time/Temporary employees will be paid at the minimum hourly rate for the full-time equivalent position's pay range. Variations to this standard as a result of market availability of applicants for a particular position may vary with Human Resources advance review and approval.
