SLC Lifeguards are responsible for the safe and effective day-to-day operation of the Student Life Center pool, locker rooms, and deck area. Guards are required to to enforce facility policy, rules and regulations to prevent accidents and implement emergency action plans as needed.

Major Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety of patrons using the Student Life Center pool, locker rooms, and pool deck.
  • Complete and submit safety reports as necessary.
  • Enforce policies in the Student Life Center.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

Reports to Associate Director of Campus Recreation for Facilities and Aquatics

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Lifeguard with CPR/AED/First Aid completed within the last year.
  • Must hold certification in Cortland County Approved Lifeguard certification from one of the following agencies: American Red Cross, American Lifeguard Association, Boy Scouts of America, Breezy Point Cooperative, Inc., Cattaraugus County EMS, Hamptons Consortium, Ellis and Associates Inc International Lifeguard Training Program, Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums, New York City Department of Parks, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Royal Life Saving Society Canada, Starfish Aquatics Institute, Inc., Suffolk County Department of Parks, Town of Babylon, Town of Brookhaven, Town of East Hampton, Town of Islip, Town of Southampton, Village of Ocean Beach, or the YMCA.
