Reports To: Park Superintendent (or designee)

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Hourly Rate: $17.55

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Parks Superintendent, the Light Equipment Operator performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the operation of light equipment and the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of City parks, athletic fields, trails, and recreational facilities. Work is performed outdoors and requires the safe operation of equipment and tools in public spaces.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Operate, clean, inspect, service, and perform minor maintenance and repairs on assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment. • Perform routine maintenance of parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, trails, greenbelts, and other recreation facilities. • Operate light equipment including pickup trucks, tractors with attachments, mowers, brush hogs, skid steers, weed eaters, blowers, chainsaws, and related grounds maintenance equipment. • Mow, edge, trim, fertilize, aerate, and maintain turf and landscaped areas. • Assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of park amenities including playground equipment, benches, picnic tables, fencing, signage, and shelters. • Perform basic carpentry, concrete, masonry, and facility repair work related to park infrastructure. • Assist with landscape installation and maintenance including planting, pruning, mulching, irrigation repair, and tree care. • Prepare parks and facilities for programs, rentals, and special events including setup and breakdown. • Maintain park cleanliness through litter removal, restroom cleaning, pressure washing, and debris removal. • Secure work areas using cones, barricades, signage, and safety equipment; assist with traffic control when necessary. • Respond to emergency maintenance needs, storm cleanup, and on-call situations as directed. • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations related to equipment operation, chemical use, and public interaction. • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

• Tools, equipment, and materials used in parks and grounds maintenance • Occupational hazards and safety practices • Basic carpentry, masonry, and concrete work • Proper lifting techniques and physical safety procedures • Chemical handling, storage, and application procedures

Ability to:

• Safely operate light equipment and hand tools • Perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions • Follow written and verbal instructions • Work independently or as part of a team • Interact professionally with coworkers and the public

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED required

Previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, groundskeeping, or related field preferred

Formal or informal training sufficient to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION

Must be a United States citizen

Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Majority of work performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold

Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, pushing, and pulling

Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds

Exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and moving equipment
