Job Purpose or Objective(s): The Lighthorse Police CID Lieutenant manages Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Investigative Unit, overseeing case management, investigative operations, and Criminal Investigators. Responsible for directing investigations, reviewing and approving reports, and ensuring cases are conducted thoroughly and in accordance with established standards. Coordinates with all courts within the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma's jurisdiction. Ensures compliance with Choctaw Nation (CNO) and Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police (CNLP) policies, procedures, and criminal investigative protocols.
Primary Tasks:
Supervise, lead, and evaluate Criminal Investigators, including assigning caseloads, monitoring performance, and providing guidance and mentorship. Promote a culture of professionalism, integrity, and accountability within the investigative unit.
Oversee and manage criminal investigations from initiation through case closure to ensure thoroughness, accuracy, and timeliness.
Review, edit, and approve investigative reports, case files, and support documentation for completeness and compliance. Ensure all investigative activities adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and CNO/CNLP policies and procedures.
Prepare cases for prosecution, including organizing evidence, ensuring proper chain of custody, and supporting court proceedings.
Provide testimony in court and assist investigators in preparing for legal proceedings.
Monitor investigative trends and implement strategies to improve case outcomes and operational efficiency.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and documentation of evidence in accordance with established protocols.
Conduct internal reviews, audits, and quality assurance checks of investigative work.
Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training programs.
Respond to major incidents and provide on-scene leadership and investigative direction when required.
Maintain accurate records, reports, and statistics related to investigative activities.
Coordinate and collaborate with tribal, federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies as needed.
Perform other duties as may be assigned.

High School Diploma or GED
CLEET Certification
Demonstrated knowledge of criminal law, investigative techniques, and evidence handling procedures
Experience preparing cases for prosecution and providing courtroom testimony
Proficient in basic computer applications for report writing and professional correspondence
Skilled in the use of law enforcement communication systems, software, and equipment
Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, apply strong analytical and critical thinking skills, and make sound, timely decisions in high‑stress and conflict situations
Two [2] years in a supervisory or Sergeant role preferred, not required
Four [4] years of criminal investigation experience preferred, not required
Four [4] years of experience as a police officer required
