    Job Summary: The Lighthorse Police Criminal Investigator is attached to the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police's Criminal Investigations Division (CID). This position is responsible for investigating criminal violations of Tribal, State, and Federal laws within the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma's (CNO) reservation boundaries and assessing the sufficiency of evidence for prosecution.

    Primary Tasks:

    • Organizes, plans, and conducts independent investigations of major criminal activity occurring within the CNO reservation with the intent of prosecuting criminal offenses. Compiles comprehensive reports with the intent of submitting their findings to the appropriate prosecutorial jurisdiction.

    • Analyzes criminal charges and complaints, identifies key issues, and assists prosecutors in determining an investigation''s scope, timing, and direction. Prepare cases for court and testify as needed.

    • Develops professional relationships with surrounding state and federal agencies, as well as members of the public, with the intent of gathering and processing crucial information related to the investigation of criminal activity within the assigned area of responsibility.

    • Obtains, authenticates, and preserves evidence at crime scenes. Executes search and arrest warrants and documents their involvement in a criminal investigation in an articulate, well written, and comprehensive report.

    • Reports critical information to the internal chain of command and coordinates with other agencies to ensure comprehensive law enforcement services.

    • Locates individuals with active warrants, takes them into custody and ensures secure transportation to the appropriate correctional or holding facility.

    • Performs follow up investigations into reported crimes and, if necessary, ensures applicable prosecution of criminal offenses.

    • Stays informed on significant matters within jurisdictional areas and addresses unsafe conditions whenever applicable.

    • Participates in an "on call" schedule and assists uniformed officers at the scene of criminal incidents with advice, assistance, and instruction as needed.

    • Investigates complaints against Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Officers and officers of other agencies as requested.

    • Remains available and acts as a resource for uniformed officers in the field whenever necessary.

    • Enforces Tribal, State, and Federal Laws, and remains able to perform basic law enforcement tactics, as instructed in an accredited law enforcement academy and Field Training program.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Education and Experience:

    • High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent
    • At least 21 years of age
    • Possess a valid State driver's license
    • CLEET certification in good standing
    • Able to perform Police Officer duties and pass a Physical Fitness test
    • Qualify yearly with department firearms
    • Ability to use law enforcement communication; law enforcement software and equipment; logically; make sound decisions; to work effectively and efficiently in high stress and conflict situations; exercise independent judgment and make logical decisions
