Summary

The hiring salary for this position is $63,663.80 annually.

Charles County Government is seeking a dynamic Line Maintenance Supervisor to perform supervisory water and wastewater system maintenance work for the Countys Department of Utilities. Supervisor will be involved in supervising crews engaged in the maintenance, installation and repair of water and wastewater collection and distribution lines, valves, meters and related equipment. This position maintains and repairs water and sewer line. Carries out daily assignments, follow through on matters, and use independent judgement to take appropriate actions to deal with standard reoccurring situations. Manage contractors as assigned. Maintains electronic records of completed wok. Supervisor will act as a liaison between DPW-Utilities and customers., and work with other departments to resolve field-oriented conflicts.

Essential Job Functions

  • Installs, maintains and repairs water distribution and wastewater collection piping, systems and equipment.
  • Schedules maintenance and repair of assigned equipment, machinery and vehicles.
  • Trains, supervises and evaluates assigned personnel.
  • Ensures adequate maintenance and cleanliness of assigned work areas.
  • Follows safety practices in performance of all duties.
  • Locates water and wastewater service for other parties.
  • Updates and maintains records, plans, drawings, files and supplies.
  • Interacts with other agencies as required.
  • Implements modifications to systems as needed.
  • Investigates and helps resolve complaints.
  • Flushes fire hydrants.
  • Prepares time sheets or cards for crew.
  • Establish and maintain electronic records in the maintenance management system.
  • Coordinates with vehicle maintenance for repairs.
  • Coordinates work with other departments for preventive maintenance and emergencies.
  • Prepares the monthly work orders for completion and log into computer for down load.
  • Attends training classes and conferences so to share information and promote advancement in the work place.
  • Provides hands on inspections of water and sewer lines man hole instillation also curb stops and clean out.
  • Prepares material for upcoming jobs and assist in installation.
  • Acts for supervisor as assigned. Performs related work as required.
  • Interfaces with the GIS in order to ensure accuracy and efficiency in performing underground asset work while maintaining safety on the job site.
  • Conducts initial investigation and follow up on customer complaints.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED). Five (5) years of progressively responsible utility maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.

Licenses or Certifications:

Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License, Class "A" or Class "A" restricted and "N" endorsement (tanker) required

Water Distribution Operator Certificate

Class 2 (gravity & pumped or vacuum systems) Wastewater Collection Operator Certificate

Temporary Traffic Control Registered Flagger.

Confined Space Procedures

Shoring certification

Erosion and Sediment Control Certification.

Special Requirements/Qualifications:

Subject to work beyond the normal scheduled hours of work.

Satisfactory completion of confined space procedures.

Serve in on-call duty on a rotational basis.

May work in confined space areas.

Subject to call back in emergencies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is regularly active with periods of heavy exertion, and is performed in shop or field settings and outside. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 100 pounds; climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding; bend, kneel, crouch and crawl; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; feel the size, shape and temperature of items; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards. The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing, and to detect odors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Principal duties of this job are performed in a general office, in shop or field settings and outside environment. Employee is subject to hazards of a wastewater environment; exposed to raw sewage; and exposed to inclement weather.
