    Revised 05/06/2021 NA JOB TITLE: Line Mechanic STATUS: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Shop Foreman TERMS: 261 days DEPARTMENT: Transportation PAY GRADE: 307 PRIMARY PURPOSE: Perform major and minor mechanical repairs with minimum supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of District vehicles. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certifications: High School Diploma or GED Valid license/certification or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment Texas commercial driver's license (Class B or A) with "P" and "S" endorsements Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification Current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or Texas Association of School Bus Technicians (TASBT) certification in Diesel Engine Repair One additional current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or Texas Association of School Bus Technicians (TASBT) certification in either Medium/ Heavy Duty Truck or School Bus Master Technician Certification, preferred State of Texas Vehicle Safety Inspector License, preferred Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to pass Texas Department of Public Safety school bus driver physical exam Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests Must be able to pass criminal history check and MVR driving record check Ability to operate a school bus Proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English Experience: Two or more years' experience in auto/truck maintenance and repair MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    1. Perform major and minor mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and inspections on all district vehicles in a timely and efficient manner with minimal supervision.
    2. Assist Lead Mechanic with major vehicle repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls.
    3. Service vehicles according to established preventive maintenance schedule and maintain accurate, updated records of preventive maintenance.
    4. Perform vehicle safety inspections on district vehicles.
    5. Clean shop floors, stalls, driveways, tools, and equipment.
    6. Assist with vehicle road calls and accidents as needed Revised 05/06/2021 NA
    7. Serve as bus driver or monitor on routes as needed
    8. Perform all other duties as assigned MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Tools/Equipment Used: Automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment; tire repairing equipment; small hand tools; power tools; welding torch; torque wrench; jack and lift equipment; school bus and district vehicles. Posture: Frequent standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions Motion: Frequent walking; frequent climbing, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress The foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.
