PURPOSE AND NATURE OF WORK
Position is responsible of installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead or underground electrical transmission and distribution lines and related components of the municipal electrical distribution system. Position is subject to 24-hour call and work is sometimes hazardous.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school supplemented by a course in basic electricity and experience working as a Lineman I; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification
Applicants must have at least a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or CDL permit with to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana Class A CDL prior to hire.
APPRENTICESHIP
Positions in this class may be assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6. This requires the employee to complete initial and ongoing training requirements established by the Lafayette Utilities System within two (2) years for continued employment.
TYPE OF EXAMINATION
Examination will be a combination written and performance test.
