Remote/Onsite: Hybrid – Chicago preferred; will also consider Dallas

Target Base Salary: $130,000 – $155,000 base + 8–15% incentive bonus

Required Tech/Experience (Manager won’t consider candidates without the following):
- 7+ years of Linux systems administration experience
- Minimum 2 years in a team lead or management role
- Hands-on experience with Red Hat Linux, automation tools (Ansible, Terraform), and virtualization (VMware/KVM)
- Strong background in incident response and managing production environments
- Preferred Tech/Experience (Not required, but moves the candidate to the top of the list):
- RHCE certification
- Cloud certification (AWS preferred)
- CI/CD pipeline support (Jenkins, Harness, Argo)
- Familiarity with ITIL/service management
Our client is seeking a seasoned Linux Manager to lead and oversee a team responsible for the stability, performance, and security of Linux-based infrastructure. The role is both strategic and hands-on—guiding a high-performing team, supporting critical production systems, and driving initiatives around automation, cloud, and resiliency. You will collaborate across DevOps, security, and engineering teams to ensure infrastructure goals are met and downtime is minimized.
Years’ Experience/Degree Requirements/Certification:
- 7+ years total Linux experience
- 2+ years in a leadership/management capacity
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred
- Certifications (RHCE, AWS, ITIL) strongly preferred
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and mentor a team of Linux administrators, providing technical leadership and guidance
- Oversee daily operations and maintenance of Linux servers (on-premise and in cloud)
- Lead monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning strategies
- Ensure uptime and business continuity through best practices and proactive incident management
- Drive root cause analysis and implement preventive measures for critical issues
- Manage patching, upgrades, and configuration management (Ansible, Puppet)
- Maintain operational documentation, policies, and standard operating procedures
- Collaborate with DevOps, security, and networking teams to align goals
- Recommend and evaluate new tools, technologies, and methodologies
- Ensure systems comply with security and data protection standards
- Contribute to budgeting, vendor selection, and resource planning
Technical Requirements:
- Linux Systems Admin: Advanced experience with Red Hat, both physical and virtualized environments; patching, AMI creation, automation scripting
- Cloud Infrastructure: Strong experience designing secure, scalable cloud systems (AWS/Azure)
- Infrastructure Automation: Expertise in Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Git, and Harness
- CI/CD Pipelines: Deep familiarity with secure builds, GitOps/DevOps, Argo, Harness, testing and promotion workflows
- Resilient Architecture: Building and maintaining 24/7 mission-critical infrastructure
- Communication & Leadership: Clear communicator with ability to lead distributed teams
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
