Title: Literacy Intervention Teacher
Reports To: MS/HS Principal
Employment Status: Full Time
Qualifications/Experience:
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in the area of Literacy/Reading Specialist, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field with a focus on adolescent literacy or intervention systems
Experience implementing intervention programs and progress monitoring systems
Prior experience with MTSS, RTI, or PBIS frameworks preferred
Experience analyzing student data to inform instruction and interventions
Strong knowledge of adolescent literacy development and evidence-based intervention strategies
Expertise in data analysis and progress monitoring tools
Ability to lead teams and facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs)
Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
Cultural competency and trauma-informed practices
Minimum of 5 years of continuous teaching experience in grades 6-12 English Language Arts
Demonstrated experience working with at-risk, struggling, and/or multilingual learners
Current Professional Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education 6 -12 or Reading K-12
Reading Specialist endorsement (preferred)
General Description:
The Secondary Literacy Interventionist is responsible for leading and implementing a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework focused on improving literacy outcomes for at-risk students in grades 6-12. This role combines direct instructional support with systems-level leadership to ensure that all students receive targeted, data-driven interventions aligned with Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports. The position requires strong collaboration with teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and families to promote equitable access to high-quality instruction and interventions, particularly for students with academic gaps, trauma-related needs, and/or English language development needs. The Literacy Intervention teacher is responsible for group and individual instruction of reading for students who have been identified as academically at-risk in the areas of reading, writing, and language, and when administering Title I services, meet state and federal guidelines. When appropriate, the Literacy Interventionist will develop lessons for paraprofessionals to administer and will measure students' progress.
Responsibilities:
MTSS Leadership & Coordination
Collaborate with the secondary principal to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the school's MTSS framework (academic focus)
Coordinate Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 intervention systems for literacy
Facilitate MTSS team meetings, including data review, and intervention planning
Develop and maintain clear intervention protocols and documentation systems
Ensure fidelity of implementation across grade levels and content areas
Data & Progress Monitoring
Oversee universal screening processes and ensure timely data collection
Analyze student performance data to identify trends, gaps, and intervention needs
Monitor student progress and adjust interventions accordingly
Support staff in using data to drive instructional decisions
Direct Student Support
Provide targeted literacy interventions for identified students (small group and/or individual)
Support students with reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and foundational literacy skills
Collaborate with special education and ESL staff to align supports
Staff Support & Professional Development
Provide coaching and support to teachers on:
Differentiated instruction
Literacy strategies across content areas
Intervention implementation
Lead professional development related to MTSS and literacy best practices
Support teachers and paraprofessionals in delivering interventions effectively
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with administrators, counselors, and teachers to support student success
Communicate with families regarding student progress and intervention plans
Serve as a liaison between general education, special education, and support services
Program Development & Compliance
Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention programs and recommend improvements
Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines related to intervention services
Assist in scheduling and structuring intervention blocks within the school day
