About the Opportunity
A highly respected downtown San Diego law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support its Commercial Business Litigation practice. This newly created position offers the opportunity to join a collaborative litigation team and play a critical role in supporting attorneys handling complex business disputes and high-stakes litigation matters.
The ideal candidate will have extensive litigation experience, prior experience working in a large law firm environment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with exceptional attention to detail. Spanish bilingual skills are strongly preferred.
Position Summary
The Legal Assistant provides comprehensive administrative and litigation support to multiple attorneys within the Commercial Business Litigation practice group. This role is responsible for ensuring the effective management of case files, court filings, deadlines, client communications, and attorney schedules while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, format, proofread, and finalize legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, correspondence, and other litigation-related materials.
Prepare and electronically file court documents in state and federal courts, ensuring compliance with filing procedures and deadlines.
Coordinate and maintain attorney calendars, including court appearances, depositions, mediations, client meetings, and case deadlines.
Schedule and confirm appointments with clients, witnesses, court reporters, and other legal professionals.
Serve as a professional point of contact for clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
Monitor case deadlines and proactively follow up on outstanding tasks to ensure timely completion.
Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files using document management systems.
Prepare expense reports and assist with billing-related documentation as needed.
Manage incoming communications and promptly relay messages and information to attorneys.
Support special projects and other administrative assignments as requested.
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience, preferably within Commercial Business Litigation.
Experience supporting multiple attorneys in a mid-size or large law firm environment.
Strong knowledge of litigation procedures, legal terminology, court rules, and filing requirements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Experience with legal document management systems, preferably iManage.
Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities.
5+ years of Commercial Business Litigation experience
Large law firm ("Big Law") experience
Bilingual Spanish
Work Schedule & Environment
Full-time, 40-hour workweek
Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break
Hybrid work schedule allowing up to four remote workdays per month (subject to firm policy)
Primarily in-office position located in Downtown San Diego
Overtime may be required based on case demands and filing deadlines

Competitive salary up to $105,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
