Litigation Associate -- Full-Time, Remote

Wood Litigation, APC — a San Francisco real estate and business owner/investor litigation boutique — is hiring a full-time remote litigation associate with roughly 8–12 years of civil litigation experience. Base salary is $230,000–$280,000 depending on experience, with a 1,500-hour billable requirement guaranteed in your employment agreement. Hours above 1,500 are entirely optional — and paid. You will take and defend depositions, argue motions, and prepare and try cases, not push paper.

THE FIRM

Our clients are property owners, investors, founders and businesses in high-stakes disputes. The firm's results include a $10 million jury verdict for a Silicon Valley manufacturer against former officers who embezzled, a seven-figure settlement for founders of a digital marketing unicorn forced out by controlling shareholders, and a high six-figure arbitration award for a homebuyer in a nondisclosure case. You will work directly with the firm's principal, Greg Wood, a trial lawyer with more than twenty-five years of litigation experience whom other San Francisco lawyers regularly trust with their own clients' cases.

THE ROLE

\n

\n

The selected candidate will carry real responsibility from day one: managing their own matters, taking and defending depositions, writing and arguing dispositive motions, working directly with clients and experts, and preparing cases for trial and arbitration alongside the principal. This role is built to grow in responsibility, with long-term potential for partnership or succession for the right person.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

\n

\n

• California bar admission

\n

• Roughly 8–12 years of civil litigation experience

\n

• Deposition experience — you will have taken at least 15 depositions and defended many more

\n

• Trial experience — you don't need to have first-chaired anything, but you must have prepared cases for trial and participated in trials or arbitrations in some capacity

\n

• Strong writing — most of our motion practice is dispositive or close to it

\n

• Self-direction — this is a remote position at a small firm; nobody will be walking past your desk

\n

• Bay Area residence strongly preferred (not required) — site visits, in-person depositions, court appearances and hearings are part of the job

\n

• Experience in the areas we practice — real estate and business owner/investor litigation — is a plus

\n

COMPENSATION AND STRUCTURE

\n

\n

• Base salary: $230,000–$280,000 (depending on experience) for a 1,500-hour billable year — the requirement is contractual, not a euphemism

\n

• Hours you choose to bill above 1,500 are optional and paid at an additional hourly rate on top of your salary

\n

• New client bonus: 10% of gross fee collections from clients you originate

\n

• Health insurance (firm pays 50% of premium), 401(k), paid bar dues and CLE

\n

• Flexible time off — no accrual caps or vacation-day counting; take reasonable time off so long as your hours are on track and your cases are covered

\n

• Remote work, with in-person appearances as cases require

\n

WHY THIS STRUCTURE

\n

\n

Most firms treat "work-life balance" as a slogan next to a 1,900-hour requirement. We built the opposite: the base salary is earned at 1,500 hours, full stop, because we want someone excellent for the long term and sustainable hours are how you get that.
