Our attorneys may work remotely or hybrid (from Plymouth, Massachusetts or Worcester, Massachusetts).Position OverviewThis attorney will handle the defense of automobile and general liability personal injury cases from receipt until conclusion through dismissal, settlement or trial. While you will have the flexibility to independently manage your caseload and calendar, you will have support from other attorneys as well as trial specialists, paralegals, secretaries, and other support staff. Admission in good standing to the Massachusetts Bar. Additional licenses in New England a plus.In This Role, You WillEngage in all facets of litigation, including, but not limited to, preparing responsive pleadings, issuing and responding to written discovery, interviewing witnesses, preparing for and attending/conducting court hearings, depositions, settlement conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and/or trialResearch legal issues and evaluate the case in terms of liability, damages, and exposure, and communicate same with clients and Claims professionalsRegularly and timely communicate with clients and Claims professionals to discuss case status and case resolution strategiesProactively move cases forward toward resolutionParticipate in roundtable discussions of cases with Staff Counsel managers, Claims managers, Claims adjusters, and othersNegotiate settlements and prepare settlement agreementsWork with other Hanover attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to accomplish goals and objectives of Staff Counsel organizationWhat You Need To ApplyExperience litigating automobile, general liability and Personal Injury Protection claimsThe candidate will be licensed in good standing with the Massachusetts BarMust have a valid driver's license, an acceptable motor vehicle record and an ability to maintain confidentialityAbility and willingness to travel, as needed, within MassachusettsAble to work in a team environment with other attorneys, adjusters, claims professionals and support staffComputer literacy, including MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and daily management of e-mail and calendarAdvocacy: Solid knowledge and ability to assist, defend or plead for another on moderately complex casesNegotiation Skills: Consistently influences claim outcomes through demonstration of effective negotiation techniquesCommunication: Strong ability to deliberately and precisely exchange thoughts and opinions with one or more persons and to effectively translate legal language and ideas into layman's termsDecision Making: Strong ability to arrive at a determination in moderate to complex situations after careful consideration of facts and law without undo procrastinationOrganization Skills: Strong ability to categorize and prioritize work and information to effectively and efficiently maximize productivityInvestigative Skills: Proficiency in following up step by step on inquiry or observation and search and examine with care and accuracy.
