As a Litigation Legal Assistant, you will provide administrative and case support to litigation attorneys and other legal professionals while working closely with a broader support team. You will help keep court filings, case documents, calendars, billing, and trial preparation organized and accurate so attorneys can stay focused on serving clients. This role offers meaningful exposure to the full lifecycle of litigation matters and the opportunity to build deeper expertise in legal operations and court procedures. The position follows a hybrid schedule and requires regular onsite presence in the Kansas City office four days per week.
Responsibilities
Prepare, review, proofread, and finalize legal documents and correspondence, ensuring formatting, grammar, signatures, exhibits, attachments, and enclosures are complete and accurate
Complete electronic court filings and retrieve pleadings and other court documents
Maintain organized paper and electronic client files, including document filing, scanning, and records management
Support accurate matter billing by processing expenses, reimbursements, invoices, pre-bills, time entries, and billing statement revisions
Help prepare litigation matters for trial by maintaining case chronologies and organizing key information and documents
Manage multiple attorney calendars, deadlines, meetings, and scheduling systems to keep matters on track
Assist with discovery production, deposition scheduling, and other litigation support activities as needed
Support new matter intake by completing conflict checks, preparing engagement letters, and coordinating the file-opening process
Coordinate business travel and maintain accurate continuing legal education reporting
Keep attorneys, legal professionals, and clients informed with clear, timely updates on active projects and deadlines
Requirements
Must-Have:
High school diploma or equivalent
At least 2 years of professional office experience
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent proofreading skills with close attention to formatting, spelling, grammar, and document completeness
Ability to manage multiple calendars, priorities, deadlines, and confidential information accurately
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work onsite in the Kansas City office four days per week
Nice to Have:
Previous experience working in a law firm or legal office
Familiarity with litigation procedures and terminology
Experience completing electronic court filings
Experience with legal billing, time-entry, document management, or case-management systems
Exposure to discovery, deposition coordination, or trial preparation
