OverviewVinson & Elkins LLP is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to support the Business & Commercial Litigation and Intellectual Property practice areas in our San Francisco office. The individual should be highly organized, team-oriented, detail-oriented, a self-starter, and able to collaborate with multiple attorneys to deliver high-quality legal representation.ResponsibilitiesCase ManagementCollaborate with attorneys on initial case work‑up, organization, and review of preliminary documents and investigation of fact issues.Assist with identification of custodians, key client contacts, and potential witnesses.Conduct legal, witness, and entity research (Lexis, Westlaw, SOS). Research venue, jurisdiction, and local rules.Cooperate with in‑house client legal teams, key witnesses, and third‑party affiliates with knowledge of relevant facts.Develop efficient file structures for individualized matters and maintain organization of all case data, work product, and information throughout the life of the matter.Analyze audit requests, coordinate with timekeepers, and finalize audit responses.Work with e‑discovery providers to assist in the production of documents.Case Work‑UpMonitor case filings and consult with firm personnel via Pacer and PacerPro.Proofread, cite‑check, and table‑check motions and briefs.Draft notices and subpoenas; coordinate with process servers for service tracking.Compile supporting evidence and exhibits for motions and briefs, including appellate records and protecting documents subject to orders.Schedule depositions and liaise with court reporter and videographer services.Select and assemble exhibits for depositions, create binders and boxes for remote and in‑person depositions.Prepare witness outlines, templates, and conduct prior subject‑matter witness research.Data Management, Review, and Document ProductionsCoordinate with e‑discovery professionals on data collection, custodial issues, and document reviews.Manage complex document database review projects, tagging, field selection, and categorization.Conduct database searches and assist with production reviews.Coordinate export with e‑discovery team and link with third‑party translation services as needed.Handle Bates labeling and production of hard‑copy materials.Formal ProceedingsPrepare and assist at mediations, arbitrations, administrative hearings, evidentiary hearings, and trials.Serve as point of contact for local and remote proceedings logistics.Negotiate and contract trial team accommodations, space, and lodging.Coordinate with IT vendors and counsel for technology requirements and equipment.Communicate with court personnel and witnesses regarding scheduling and preparation.Research and assemble trial, arbitration, and evidentiary hearing exhibits.Secondary ResponsibilitiesAchieve the firm‑set billable hourly requirement.Process vendor invoices and liaise with professional assistants as needed.Prepare daily time entries and submit weekly overtime reports.Maintain organization under general supervision of assigned attorneys.Exhibit excellent communication and polished presentation skills.Education and QualificationsMinimum: Bachelor's degree required; paralegal certificate preferred.Experience: Minimum five years of broad‑based commercial litigation experience; intellectual property law knowledge is a plus.Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, LexisNexis (TextMap), WestLaw, Pacer, Relativity, OnCue, CourtAlert, e‑filing software, and CA e‑filing system.Attributes: Self‑directed, keen attention to detail, strong oral and written communication, organization, time management, collaboration, multitasking, legal analysis skills.Competencies: Learn new skills and best practices; build relationships; maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and good judgment.Working ConditionsOffice environment with time pressures and dependency on others' input.Overtime and travel may be required.CompensationThe full‑time annual salary in California is expected to range from $90,105.42 to $157,684.75.
