Job Description

Hybrid Litigation Role: Paralegal/Secretary

A well‑established yet growing boutique litigation firm with a 25‑year reputation in the East Bay is hiring. While the firm is intentionally small, it is extremely busy, highly respected, and deeply hands‑on in its work. This is an ideal opportunity for a senior legal professional who enjoys variety, autonomy, and being truly valued rather than feeling siloed or lost in a large firm environment.

The firm handles a broad mix of business, commercial, real estate, and construction litigation, representing both plaintiff and defense clients. You'll work closely with the Partner, gaining exposure to meaningful legal work and contributing directly to case strategy and execution. The attorney is known to be excellent to work for, appreciates experience, and values long‑term stability.

If you're someone who thrives in a tight‑knit environment, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and values being trusted with responsibility, this role offers a refreshing alternative to traditional big‑firm structures.

Position Overview

The Legal Secretary / Paralegal will provide senior‑level support in all phases of litigation, with a heavy emphasis on court filings, calendaring, and document preparation. This is a critical role within the firm and offers the opportunity to be a true partner to the attorney rather than simply support staff.

Hourly Pay Depends on Experience level but starting around $40-$42/hr.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, format, and electronically file pleadings and legal documents in California state courts
  • Manage complex calendaring and docketing, ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines
  • Draft and finalize Tables of Contents (TOCs) and Tables of Authorities (TOAs)
  • Assist with litigation matters involving real estate, business, commercial, and construction disputes
  • Provide direct, day‑to‑day support to the firm's principal attorney
  • Maintain organized case files and assist with discovery, correspondence, and litigation support tasks as needed
