JOB SUMMARY: The East Troy Community School District is looking for a part-time Cook to join our fantastic Little Prairie Food Service staff beginning the 2026-27 school year. This position completes basic tasks commonly expected to be performed in a school kitchen, including preparation of food, serving of food, cleaning dishes and utensils, and preparing serving area and operation of all food service equipment; operates computer for purpose of recording meal service transactions and receiving cash payments; able to support and fill in for Head Cook as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Manual dexterity and ability to work under pressure.

  • Ability to develop positive professional relationships with students, staff, and public

  • Aptitude for simple mathematical calculations

  • Basic computer experience

  • Aptitude to earn Serve Safe Certification within first twelve months of employment

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares entree, vegetables, salad, and other food items as needed for student service

  • Washes dishes/cleans equipment and work areas

  • Operates food service equipment

  • Sets up serving line, serves food, and restocks

  • Operates computer/cashier depending upon site assignment and rotation

  • Fill in for head cook as needed

  • Maintains high standards of sanitation for production, service, cleanup, product storage and receiving

ASSOCIATED FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises employee Cooks and Cashiers in the provision of school meals for an assigned site
  • Develops work schedules and job assignments for site staff
  • Orders food, milk and supplies to meet the requirements of site meals within the accepted departmental timeline
  • Performs duties of Cooks and Cashier (prepares entree, vegetables, salad and other food items; washes dishes, cleans equipment/work areas, sets up serving line, serves food and restocks)
  • Maintains high standards of sanitation for production, service, cleanup, product storage and receiving in accordance with departmental requirements and state regulations
  • Implements the departmental account collection policies as needed within the school site
  • Prepares monthly food and supply inventory and submits to the Director of Food Service within the accepted time frame
  • Able to prepare and maintain accurate production records in accordance with federal regulations under the guidance of the operations specialist
  • Coordinates promotion efforts within site school under the direction of the Director of Food Service
  • Uses District e-mail and other electronic software necessary in the operation of your kitchen site
  • Able to operate, teach and support the computer/cashier positions within site assignment

TYPICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: (Based on percentages, measured in terms of frequency: Occasionally= 0-33%, Frequently= 34-66%, Constantly= 67-100%)

This job is classified as medium work with constant standing, bending/stooping, reaching, lifting up to 10 pounds, and repeating movements with both hands. There is frequent walking/moving throughout the work site. Sitting, squatting/crouching, climbing on a step stool, kneeling, pushing and pulling with forces up to 117.5 pounds, and lifting up to 50 pounds are all performed occasionally. Verbal and auditory communication are both frequently involved. Near and far vision acuity, color vision, field of vision, and tasting/smelling are frequently utilized.

This job is performed inside. Air conditioning is not available. The temperature could reach up to 110 degrees. There are district school nutrition staff meetings each school year that may be held outside the assigned building. On an occasional basis, staff may be assigned to another building on a temporary basis to help with an emergent issue.

ASSOCIATED FUNCTIONS:

  • Understands the relationship between site meal participation, staffing and customer satisfaction
  • Contributes to the annual and probationary performance evaluation of all site staff with the Director of Food Service
  • Assesses need for performance improvement for all site staff and reports to the Director of Food Service with results
  • Interacts with State Sanitarian twice annually for state and federally mandated inspection process
  • Contribute to the positive site work environment through effective communication and problem solving
  • Attends all district trainings with site staff and periodic lead staff trainings and meetings as needed
  • Recommends food service equipment needs and reports equipment failure and maintenance needs to Director of Food Service within acceptable time frames
  • All other duties as assigned which relate to the functions of the job.
