    The LMS 1st Assistant Cross Country Coach has the chance to make a real difference for students, whether they are experienced runners or trying a school sport for the first time. Working alongside the Head Coach, you will help create a team where students feel supported, challenged, and proud of their growth.

    Salary: The salary range for the position is: Min. $1,530 to Max. $2,720. Salary placement will be at Step 0 of the Coaches Agreement unless documentation of experience is received per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.     Nature and Scope of Position:

    The Lakeside Middle School 1st Assistant Cross Country Coach assists the Head Cross Country Coach in the instruction, supervision, and development of student-athletes participating in the middle school cross country program. The position supports practices, competitions, safety, equipment, eligibility expectations, and team operations in accordance with WIAA, league, district, school, and athletic-department requirements.

    Season: Fall 2026/2027

    Primary Job Functions

    • Assist the Head Cross Country Coach with the Lakeside Middle School cross country program.
    • Provide instruction and supervision for assigned student-athletes and team activities.
    • Assist with practices that emphasize safe training habits, running fundamentals, conditioning, pacing, and age-appropriate preparation for competition.
    • Teach individual and team skills appropriate for middle school cross country.
    • Provide appropriate supervision during practices, competitions, travel, and other assigned team activities.
    • Promote accountability, teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, and a positive team culture.
    • Maintain appropriate team discipline and model professional, respectful conduct.
    • Communicate participation expectations, team rules, and eligibility requirements to student-athletes as directed by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
    • Prioritize student safety and follow district procedures for injuries, concussion management, sudden cardiac arrest awareness, emergency response, and reporting concerns.
    • Communicate with the Head Cross Country Coach regarding practices, competitions, student development, concerns, and program needs.
    • Follow applicable WIAA, league, district, school, and athletic-department rules, procedures, and expectations.
    • Maintain required certifications and complete required district and WIAA training.
    • Assist with equipment, uniforms, inventory, facility use, and team records as assigned.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, coaching staff, school personnel, and administration.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head Cross Country Coach or Athletic Director.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Required Qualifications

    • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification before the start of the season.
    • Ability to meet Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint-clearance requirements.
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Ability to complete required WIAA coaching education and district-directed training.
    • Knowledge of safe and effective cross country fundamentals, training practices, and student-athlete development appropriate for middle school students.
    • Ability to instruct, supervise, and communicate effectively with middle school-aged students.
    • Commitment to student safety, positive relationships, sportsmanship, and equitable treatment of students.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Experience playing or coaching cross country at the middle school, high school, collegiate, club, or comparable level.
    • Experience working with middle school-aged students.
    • Skill in encouraging young athletes while providing clear, age-appropriate instruction.
    • A student-centered approach that promotes confidence, healthy habits, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
    • Ability to support the Head Coach in maintaining a positive, organized, and inclusive cross country program.
    • Collaborative communication with students, families, coaches, school staff, and administration.
