Job Overview
Impact Workforce Solutions is seeking a Locomotive Final Tester Technician to join our manufacturing team in Muncie, IN. This role plays a critical part in ensuring locomotives meet all mechanical and electrical specifications before delivery to customers. You’ll inspect, measure, and evaluate locomotive systems to maintain high-quality standards.
Schedule:
- 1st shift: Mon-Fri 6am-4:30pm
- 2nd shift: Mon-Fri 2:30pm-11pm
- 3rd Shift: Sun-Thurs 9:30pm-6am
- Overtime opportunities on Friday-Sunday

Key Responsibilities
- Test electrical, mechanical, and electronic locomotive systems, including air brakes, diesel engines, and system interactions.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical defects.
- Conduct track testing of locomotives while adhering to operational safety rules.
- Follow detailed work instructions, record data accurately, and set up special instrumentation as required.
- Operate locomotives, tuggers, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment.
- Read and interpret precision instruments, gauges, and technical schematics.
Advanced Responsibilities:
- Lead troubleshooting efforts and develop solutions for technical issues.
- Manage daily work assignments to ensure timely and safe task completion.
- Collaborate with quality and production teams to report key findings.
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- Skill Level I: 0–2 years of experience or a degree in electrical/mechanical engineering.
- Skill Level II: 2+ years of relevant experience or advanced technical expertise.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Strong ability to read and understand schematics and flowcharts.
- Excellent communication skills for documenting and resolving non-conformance issues.
Preferred:
- Experience with high-voltage environments and advanced test equipment.
- Computer skills, including familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office.
- Prior experience in locomotive testing or related fields.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Strength: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined spaces.
- Motion: Standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, and climbing stairs throughout the day.
- Environment: Exposure to temperature extremes, noise, vibrations, and oils in both indoor and outdoor settings.
- Safety: Adherence to strict safety protocols, including PPE use and blue-flag policies.
