Inpatient Orthopedic Surgery | 24-Hour Call Coverage | Level III Trauma Center

365 Healthcare is seeking a Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Surgeon for a locum tenens opportunity serving MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center and MercyOne Cedar Falls Medical Center. This hospital-based assignment focuses exclusively on inpatient orthopedic surgery and 24-hour call coverage with no clinic responsibilities. Competitive compensation, malpractice coverage, and travel and lodging coverage are provided.

This assignment offers ongoing coverage for experienced orthopedic surgeons who can provide comprehensive trauma and inpatient orthopedic care.

Schedule

• Hospital-based, inpatient only
• No clinic responsibilities
• 24-hour call coverage
• Coverage at both Waterloo and Cedar Falls Medical Centers
• Ongoing locum coverage opportunities

Coverage Needed

Providers must be available for the following coverage blocks:

• September 14 – September 28
• November 6 – November 9
• December 14 – December 28

Practice Overview

• Two-hospital coverage model (Waterloo & Cedar Falls)
• Level III Trauma Center
• Epic Enterprise EMR
• Four orthopedic surgeons
• Four Advanced Practice Providers
• Average inpatient census: 10–20 patients across both facilities
• Adult and pediatric patient population
• No outpatient clinic responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

• 24-hour orthopedic call coverage
• Inpatient orthopedic consultations
• Emergency Department consultations
• Surgical management of orthopedic trauma and musculoskeletal disorders
• Inpatient rounding and post-operative management
• ICU consultation and management as needed
• Respond to all orthopedic consult and provider calls while on service
• Documentation utilizing Epic Enterprise

Procedural Scope

Providers should be comfortable managing:

• Orthopedic trauma
• Fracture management
• Spine disorders
• Hand and upper extremity conditions
• Hip, knee, shoulder, foot, and ankle disorders
• Musculoskeletal infections
• Bone and soft tissue tumors
• Degenerative orthopedic conditions
• Orthopedic emergencies requiring operative intervention

Support Structure

• Four orthopedic surgeons
• Four Advanced Practice Providers
• Dedicated operating room staff
• Onsite imaging, laboratory, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy services
• Full-service Level III Trauma Center

Requirements

• Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery
• Fellowship Trained in Orthopedic Surgery
• Active Iowa license or Active IMLC with LOQ
• Prior orthopedic surgery experience required
• Ability to cover all required coverage blocks
• Clean malpractice and background history
• Current NPDB Self-Query
