Job Summary Support merchandising and operations with freight‑related responsibilities such as freight claims, accounts payable freight invoices, and freight quotes. Collaborate with store teams and merchandising to maximize the efficiency of Inter‑branch Transfers and Distribution deliveries. Identify and coordinate the transfer of underperforming (SEI) inventory to reduce inventory loss.Responsibilities Manage the internal flow of McCoy's owned inventory through Inter‑branch Transfer and Distribution enhancements, including developing store groupings, vehicle routes, and delivery days.Utilize and coordinate less‑than‑truckload (LTL) and common carrier services for the Commodities group.Generate and maintain relationships, negotiate rates with 3rd‑party carriers (LTL and common). Present two carriers for possible onboarding each quarter.Coordinate all backhauls with vendors and manufacturers on company‑owned vehicles or common carriers to create backhaul revenue, minimize freight costs, and lower the cost of goods.Execute all functions to develop and maintain positive relationships with store teams and vendors.Produce examples demonstrating an attitude of service when dealing with store teams.Support store teams by addressing mold, damage, or quantity discrepancy deliveries. Create and follow a paper trail until the claim is resolved.Continue professional growth by reading periodicals, newsletters, blogs, or the internet, and participating in education and training sessions.Meet with merchandising and store teams periodically to plan and review distribution and Inter‑branch Transfer strategy.Provide management reports on vehicle and inventory metrics and performance.Audit delivery scheduling periodically to ensure efficiency.Monitor, analyze, and approve freight invoices. Keep AP outstanding to a minimum.Continuously monitor and reduce corrective placement and demurrage charges.Achieve year‑over‑year financial improvement in the freight and backhaul section of P&L and financial statements.Follow SOPs, attend team meetings, training sessions, and company‑sponsored programs as required.Assist in training new employees on processes and systems.Upload and manage TMS loads and information.Qualifications Bachelor's degree from a four‑year college or university; or 2‑5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or regulatory documents.Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry.Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables where limited standardization exists.Ability to interpret various instructions written, oral, diagram, or schedule.Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel, Basware, MAC21, and other software.Knowledge of basic and intermediate purchasing and merchandising principles.Preferred Qualifications Experience in the retail industry, preferably building supply.Experience with freight, energy, and fuel market knowledge.Work Availability Maintain regular and acceptable attendance. Must be available for at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, and be willing to work weekends and holidays as needed.Travel Requirements Occasional travel with overnight stays. Must meet driver's license requirements and be able to obtain a rental vehicle in all states of business. Must have current auto liability insurance.Physical Demands Stand, walk, sit, and use hands; occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Requires close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must listen.
