Location: Remote / Hybrid Cedar Rapids, IA
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: DOE Base Salary + Commission
Commission: Typically 8 10% of margin dollars
Industry: Transportation & Logistics
We are looking for an experienced Senior Logistics Sales Executive who knows how to hunt, build relationships, and - most importantly - turn those relationships into active freight business.
This is a hands-on individual contributor sales role. You will not be responsible for managing a sales team. Instead, your focus will be on developing new customers, expanding business, and generating profitable freight opportunities.
The ideal candidate will bring an existing network of transportation customers or a somewhat portable book of business that can help generate activity within the first 30 60 days.
While an existing book of business is strongly preferred, we are open to candidates from outside traditional freight brokerage or transportation if they have the right customer relationships, sales track record, and ability to generate new business quickly.
Our business is approximately 70 75% spot/project-based, with a strong presence in specialty freight. We also handle contract freight when the opportunity provides the right margin and strategic fit.
Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify, prospect, and develop new customer relationships within the transportation and logistics market.
Leverage existing customer relationships and industry contacts to generate new freight opportunities.
Build and maintain a strong pipeline of profitable business.
Target customers with recurring or project-based transportation needs, with an emphasis on spot, project, and specialty freight.
Develop customized transportation and logistics solutions based on each customer's requirements.
Build trusted, long-term relationships with shippers and decision-makers.
Generate new business through prospecting, networking, referrals, industry relationships, and existing contacts.
Negotiate pricing, rates, and contracts while maintaining healthy margins.
Manage the sales process from initial prospecting through customer acquisition and ongoing relationship development.
Partner with internal operations and brokerage teams to ensure a smooth transition and strong execution once business is secured.
Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts and increase customer spend.
Monitor transportation and logistics market conditions, customer needs, and competitive activity.
Maintain accurate sales activity, pipeline, and customer information.
Take ownership of revenue generation and consistently work toward measurable sales and margin goals.
Proven experience in transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, 3PL, or a closely related industry is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated success in new business development and sales hunting.
Existing relationships with shippers, customers, or transportation decision-makers are highly valued.
A portable book of business or active customer relationships that can realistically generate new opportunities within the first 30 60 days is strongly preferred.
Experience selling spot, project, specialty, or other non-contract freight is a strong advantage.
Ability to independently prospect, open doors, develop relationships, and close new business.
Strong understanding of freight pricing, margins, negotiations, and customer requirements.
Proven ability to generate measurable revenue and margin results.
Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a performance-driven environment.
Ability to operate with urgency and demonstrate early business-development activity.
Candidates from outside traditional brokerage or transportation may be considered if they have transferable customer relationships and a strong track record of generating business quickly.
The first 60 75 days are particularly important in this role.
We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running, activate existing relationships, identify new opportunities, and begin moving business rather than requiring an extended runway to build a territory from scratch.
A candidate who already has customers or industry relationships that can realistically translate into new freight opportunities will have a significant advantage.
Long-term growth opportunities may be available for a strong performer who eventually wants to take on broader sales leadership responsibilities, but the immediate focus is individual sales performance and new business development.
Compensation & BenefitsBase Salary: depending on experience and background
Commission: Typically 8 10% of margin dollars
Commission structure may vary based on the candidate's experience, customer base, and overall opportunity.
Monthly or quarterly draw structures may be used, with targets remaining flexible depending on the individual candidate and business opportunity.
Comprehensive benefits package.
Remote-friendly work environment.
Candidates located near Cedar Rapids may work from the office as needed.
Opportunity for long-term career growth as the sales organization expands.
The strongest candidate will be a proven transportation/logistics sales hunter who already knows the market, has meaningful customer relationships, understands how to sell profitable freight, and can bring opportunities to the table quickly.
This is best suited for someone who can say:
"I know the customers, I know how to win the business, and I can start making calls and moving freight immediately."
